I doubt there is much to be gained by advocacy, if only because there is a lot of background noise that obscures and obfuscates any message that you may have. I mean it is not as if we are short of information on the many issues and predicaments that face us.

I've long wondered about this matter too. I tend to write about the small stories. Everyone else writes about the big picture stuff, and I'm not sure what good it does. But the small stuff. Hmm. I'll tell ya a little story from the other day:

I went to purchase an Irish Strawberry Tree, and couldn't find one at the local nursery. The lady there told me that people aren't planting trees these days because she reckoned that house blocks are now too small to allow the planting of trees. So I went to a couple of other nurseries in the area and they didn't have the tree either (which used to be quite commonly available species). Eventually I visited a very out of the way (in the middle of nowhere) nursery run by a really old bloke, and he had several of the trees for sale. I ask you, what does that story say about decline? And what chance is there that the old bloke is handing on his nursery skills to younger growers?

Those are the stories that talk. And they are everywhere. Like your cider processing group is amazing.

Cheers

Chris
Fernglade Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06950962122594709186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-471462053585171190.post-19229347236189685132019-05-03T10:57:18.648-07:002019-05-03T10:57:18.648-07:00Well articulated, Steve. And I spend way too much time flying and driving. I don't think anyone can know whether they are at an epochal turn or not, until some time after, and even then it all depends on the perspective.
mgalimbahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01586791940399089562noreply@blogger.com
